Święczkowski Appeals to Czarzasty Over TK Budget Omission
The Ministry of Finance and Economy excluded the Constitutional Tribunal's budget from Poland's 2027 government draft. Bogdan Święczkowski, head of the tribunal, sent a letter to Sejm President Włodzimierz Czarzasty demanding funding approval. The proposed expenses exceed 78 million zlotys due to pension payments for retired judges.
Święczkowski stated he acted under "higher necessity" because his financial plan was rejected by two sitting judges during internal tribunal proceedings, preventing a required vote. Despite recommendations from the Fiscal Council and Social Dialogue Council, the Sejm project lacks TK funding details without explicit legal deadlines in the relevant law.
Czarzasty responded at a press conference that he could not advance the matter because Święczkowski's plan has never been approved by the tribunal's general assembly. He advised Święczkowski to stop acting under "higher necessity" and follow proper legal procedures instead.
