Palestine Action Hunger Strikes Near Death as UK Government Ignored Demands

Palestine Action activists Heba Muraisi, Kamran Ahmed, Lewie Chiaramello, and others have been on a prolonged hunger strike since November, with some nearing 70 days without food. Muraisi, the longest fasting member at nearly 70 days, shows severe health deterioration, including weight loss, muscle spasms, breathlessness, and mental decline. She has been hospitalized three times and is aware her body could fail at any moment, yet remains committed to her demands for bail, fair trials, and de-proscription of Palestine Action, which the UK has labeled a terrorist organization. Other prisoners suffer from serious health issues, including diabetes, heart problems, and neurological symptoms. Despite warnings from doctors about the risk of death and irreversible health damage, the UK government has refused to meet with the prisoners or their legal representatives, citing the independence of the judiciary. Supporters and medical professionals have called for increased medical oversight and humane treatment, warning that the current trajectory could result in death or long-term health consequences. The hunger strike is the largest in UK history since 1981, echoing the Irish hunger strikes led by Bobby Sands. Critics accuse the government of neglect and moral responsibility for potential fatalities.
