Arsenal Interest in Rio Ngumoha Stalled by Liverpool Contract News

Reports regarding a potential transfer of Liverpool winger Rio Ngumoha to Arsenal have been downplayed following news that the teenager has agreed in principle to sign a new long-term contract with his current club. While multiple sources, including Ben Jacobs and David Ornstein, previously indicated strong interest from Mikel Arteta's squad due to tactical needs on the left wing, recent developments suggest Ngumoha intends to remain at Anfield.

Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT stated that although Arsenal hold an interest in signing the 18-year-old whose contract expires in 2028, Liverpool made it clear during the last window that he was not for sale. The club offered him opportunities on both flanks to secure more playing time.

David Ornstein of The Athletic confirmed earlier reports that Arsenal were keen and well-liked by fans at the Emirates Stadium. However, Graeme Bailey from TEAMtalk broke news on September 3 that Ngumoha has agreed a new contract in principle with Liverpool. Sources indicate the club is now accelerating towards an official announcement confirming his decision to stay.

Ngumoha turned professional last summer after joining Chelsea but moved to Anfield controversially following their deal in July 2024, where he became the youngest-ever scorer for the Reds at age 16 and has made over 35 appearances this season. Despite Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig also monitoring his situation during previous transfer windows, it appears Liverpool's intent is successfully retaining one of its brightest academy talents.
