Winter Weather Causes Multiple Accidents and Road Closures in Hildesheim District
The winter weather continues to impact the Hildesheim district, leading to multiple traffic accidents and ongoing road closures. On Thursday morning, icy conditions, snowdrifts, and falling ice slabs caused hazardous driving conditions. Several accidents occurred throughout Wednesday, including incidents on roads such as L 475 between Söhlde and Groß Himstedt, where a 23-year-old driver was slightly injured after crashing into a tree on icy roads. Another 23-year-old driver in a Ford Transit also collided with a tree near Holle, resulting in a total loss of the vehicle and hospitalization. Additional accidents involved a vehicle slipping into a ditch and a heavy-duty crane swerving to avoid a slipping car, both on K 314. A woman was also trapped in her car after a crash on L 477 near Oedelum, requiring rescue and hospital treatment. Due to persistent snowdrifts and icy conditions, some roads, including K 305, remain closed, and others have been temporarily blocked or had their barriers removed by drivers, which complicates rescue efforts. Authorities urge drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution, as further snow and ice are expected. Several minor accidents with only minor damages have been reported, but the overall situation remains challenging, with ongoing risks of snow drifts and slippery roads.
