Senta Berger Seriously Injured in Fall Before Hamburg Performance; Loriot Shows Canceled

Renowned actress Senta Berger, 84, suffered a serious fall during a soundcheck at the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg on Friday, resulting in a complex thigh fracture. She was immediately operated on and is reported to be in good condition given the circumstances. The incident occurred just before her scheduled appearance with Friedrich von Thun in the Loriot-themed evening 'Scenes of a Marriage,' which was subsequently canceled. The event was to feature sketches, dialogues, and texts centered around the humorist Vicco von Bülow, aka Loriot, with musical interludes by Maria Reiter. Her son, filmmaker Simon Verhoeven, confirmed her condition and expressed hope for a quick recovery. Berger, who has faced health issues before including a severe pneumonia in 2014 and a vascular disease, was set to appear in a film directed by her son, 'Oh, Such a Gap, Such a Horrible Gap,' with a planned premiere in Munich on January 27. Due to her fall, she missed the premiere and other scheduled Loriot performances in Hannover, Kiel, Munich, Cologne, and Vienna, with some dates uncertain. The incident has caused concern among fans and the public, with tickets being refunded starting January 21. Berger's recovery is now the priority, and she is known for her resilience. She is expected to be back in cinemas soon, despite the setback, as she prepares for upcoming roles and appearances.
