Škoda Elroq Wins German Car of the Year 2026 as Germany's Best Car

The Škoda Elroq has been crowned the German Car of the Year (GCOTY) 2026, winning against competitors like the Dacia Bigster, Hyundai Ioniq 9, Cadillac Vistiq, and Lucid Air Sapphire. The jury, composed of around 25 German and international motor journalists, praised the vehicle for its innovation and market success. The Elroq is a compact electric SUV equipped with a 286-PS motor, 545 Nm torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds, and boasts one of the best ranges in its segment. It is as spacious as the larger Skoda Enyaq, sharing the same wheelbase. The vehicle won in the compact class (up to €40,000), and the overall victory marks the third time a vehicle based on VW's MEB platform has won GCOTY, following Jaguar I-Pace, Porsche Taycan, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Volkswagen ID Buzz. The Elroq's design and technological features align with current market trends, and the vehicle's popularity is reflected in its status as Germany's best-selling electric car in October. The award emphasizes the growing influence of electric vehicles in Germany and the international auto industry.
