Massive Fire at Wood Processing Plant in Velké Karlovice Causes Hundreds of Millions in Damages
A large-scale fire broke out at a wood processing plant and lumber storage facility in Velké Karlovice on Valašsko during the night, prompting a third-degree fire alarm. Eighteen professional and volunteer firefighters responded to the scene from around 3:40 AM, with the fire still not fully localized initially. The fire affected an area of approximately 3,500 square meters, including two interconnected buildings with roofs. During firefighting efforts, one worker and one firefighter were injured and transported to the hospital, with injuries reported to be minor. The fire destroyed the main structures but firefighters managed to save four wood drying chambers and associated technologies. Water was transported via large-capacity tankers due to difficulties with water supply. Additional specialized equipment from Hlučín and drone surveillance were deployed to assist with demolishing structures and documenting damage. The initial damage estimate is in the hundreds of millions of Czech koruna. The fire is under investigation to determine the cause.
