Full Snow Moon Rises This Weekend in February 2026 Across North America

The February 2026 Full Snow Moon will be visible in North America, including Ontario, Ontario, and the United States, on Sunday, February 1. It will reach peak illumination at 5:09 p.m. EST and will be best observed at moonrise, especially in open or elevated locations. The Moon will appear just beneath the Beehive Cluster, a nearby star cluster in the constellation Leo, which can be observed with binoculars or telescopes. This full Moon is traditionally called the Snow Moon due to heavy snowfall typical of February, and it is also associated with indigenous names such as Bear Moon, Eagle Moon, and Hunger Moon. The Moon will be over 370,000 km away, appearing over 98% illuminated from Saturday night through Tuesday evening, with some regions experiencing significant snow cover and cold weather. The event coincides with the lunar cycle and is part of a series of notable lunar events in 2026, including a total lunar eclipse on June 26, 2029, and a rare annular solar eclipse on May 17, 2026. The Moon’s appearance offers an opportunity for skywatchers to observe the Beehive Cluster and other celestial phenomena, with the next full Moon following on March 3, known as the Worm Moon, which will feature a total lunar eclipse.
