French Woman Gets Rare Life Sentence for Murder of 12-Year-Old Lola Daviet

A woman named Dahbia Benkired, 27, has been sentenced to a rare life imprisonment without parole for the rape, torture, and murder of 12-year-old Lola Daviet in Paris. The crime occurred in October 2022 when Benkired lured Lola into her sister’s apartment, subjected her to over an hour of sexual assault and violence, and asphyxiated her with duct tape. The victim’s body was found in a plastic storage box outside her residence. Benkired, an Algerian immigrant on a student visa, was found to have psychopathic traits but was deemed sane. The court described the acts as 'extreme cruelty' and 'true torture,' with Lola’s family expressing relief at the verdict. The case sparked political controversy, with right-wing politicians criticizing her presence in France, while her family emphasized the importance of justice. Benkired is the first woman in France to receive such a sentence, which is usually reserved for serial killers and terrorists.
