Drew Barrymore Creates Community Spaces for Westchester Children's Nonprofit
Drew Barrymore has significantly contributed to community development in Westchester County by designing and donating spaces for local nonprofits supporting children and teens. She personally designed a pro bono training and welcome room at The Sharing Shelf, a nonprofit clothing bank serving low-income youth, which was built by Made by Gather. This 20-by-30-foot space will be used for teen clothing education, volunteer training, and as a welcoming area for teens and volunteers. The organization, which operates a free boutique for over 67,000 children and teens living in poverty, has seen a 34% increase in demand for clothing due to inflation and federal cuts. The new space aims to enhance operational capacity and community engagement. Additionally, Barrymore helped launch a new community space at The Sharing Shelf’s Port Chester location, supported by local community leaders Shae and Erica Hong. This 600-square-foot area will serve as a hub for clothing education and volunteer training, further supporting the nonprofit’s mission to provide clothing and confidence to young people. The expansion reflects a strong community effort, with volunteers and donors playing a vital role in meeting the rising needs of vulnerable families.
