Alija, originally from Kosovo and an immigrant to Canada, was highly regarded for his dedication, compassion, and service to the community. Colleagues and community leaders described him as a 'gentle giant' and a symbol of devotion to medicine, who went above and beyond for his patients and colleagues, including helping remote communities in the Northwest Territories. His death has profoundly impacted the Albanian Canadian and broader medical communities, as well as his family, including his wife and children.
